The Vampires of Venice. Getting your teeth into it.
Doctor Who rarely makes me laugh out loud, but when we saw Guido piloting the gondola wearing Rory's stag-do shirt I genuinely did. Here's what you thought............
John Howe: Another good episode. The script was strong and some of the dialogue was simply sparkling! The addition of Rory to the TARDIS crew has added a new and interesting dynamic to the action and I look forward to that continuing in the coming weeks. The Doctor's acceptance of Rory was refreshing too. The 9th Doctor was less welcoming of Adam in "Dalek" and the 10th was not keen on Mickey joining the team at the end of "School Reunion".
The episode as a whole was fast paced and action packed from the start with plenty of lighter moments and good one liners to boot. The villains of the week were, in my opinion more interesting as vampires than aliens but the transformation in no way hampered my enjoyment. Another iconic performance from Smith too. A look here, a gesture there, a flick of the sonic! This man has pretty much done the seemingly impossible by
replacing Mr Tennant! Not as good as last weeks Angels two parter but nonetheless an entertaining slice of time travel fun to brighten up the weekend.
Kate Griffiths: I enjoyed it, it was also very funny, right from the start when the Doctor jumped out of the cake and said there was a woman outside in her bikini could someone get her a jumper. To the taunts by Amy and Rory about Marco's being a Mummy's boy. Then when Rory tells him he stinks of fish well I'm hardly going to smell of cheese and biscuits. It needed that humour as it was also quite scary with all those teeth and their true form. That mummified corpse would have had me running behind the sofa if I was a good few years younger. It felt at times like it was a bit plodding but mostly it was excellent. Rory was a good inclusion to change the dynamics a bit. I love Matt Smith now it's only been six episodes but feels like he's been in the role a lot longer.
